Snip. Snip. Snip. As one who is always up for a challenge, Strata Manager Matthew Thompson did not think twice about participating in The World’s Greatest Shave.

When asked why he chose to join, Matthew replied ‘Why not? It sounds like fun and all for a brilliant cause.’ The World’s Greatest Shave is the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia biggest fundraiser event.
Thousands of people are sponsored to shave, colour or wax their hair to help people with blood cancer. The Leukaemia Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with blood cancer and related blood disorders.
Last year, thousands of people accessed the Foundation’s free services, including information, education, emotional support, transport to and from treatment and accommodation close to treatment centres for those from regional areas who are required to relocate closer to hospital.
Matthew began his own campaign and teased potential sponsors by setting ‘dare’ benchmarks to attain his goal. ‘If I raise $500, I’ll I shave the beard. Something simple to start with. If I raise $1,500, I’ll shave my head … You know you want to see it!’
Matthew sought support from his colleagues, contractors and clients, and was even surprised when one evening, owners starting reaching into their pockets at the Annual General Meeting.
On the big day, the eager Conti team rallied around Matthew. Out came the clippers, the cream and the dreaded shaver. Let’s just say that some staff members took great delight (maybe a little too much!), in their hands-on assistance of shaving Matthew.
By being brave enough to shave, Matthew successfully raised $2,533.00! Congratulations!
